Partial

Hospitalization

Intensive therapy and psychiatric care while living at home

Partial Hospitalization allows adolescents to receive intensive psychiatric and therapeutic treatment while continuing to live at home with parents and siblings. The program offers clients an environment that is structured and therapeutic. While enrolled, clients focus on developing emotional stability, self esteem, and coping skills such as conflict resolution, social skills, and anger management.

How it works

Clients attend Monday through Friday based on a traditional school year, with days that are structured around a combination of education, group, and individual therapy. Staff monitor prescribed medications under the guidance of a licensed psychiatrist. Clients also take part in an educational program designed to keep them on track academically while being treated for their mental health needs. During summer, an abbreviated program is offered to provide continued support.

Our goal is to transition patients back to
traditional school and community activities

We encourage the client to take responsibility for their own treatment.

The length of treatment depends on each client’s needs and progress.

Client progress is reviewed every 20 treatment days, so the length of participation varies for each individual.

As soon as a client meets their treatment goals, they are transitioned into a less restrictive level of care.

Who is eligible?

The Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program is designed for students in grades 6 to 12 with a psychiatric diagnosis that puts them at risk for inpatient hospitalization or residential treatment. Common diagnoses include depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Students are usually referred by physicians, mental health professionals, educators, child welfare and juvenile probation workers, or parents. A referral is followed up with an initial intake with the potential patient and their family. If the student is an appropriate candidate for partial hospitalization, an evaluation is scheduled with a staff psychiatrist. The patient’s admission is based upon the psychiatrist’s recommendation and approval by the Managed Care Organization and sending school district.
